As we are in the midst of yet another blizzard here in the northeast US, I thought it an appropriate time to post this comfort-wear. A super soft, comfortable, oversized, and probably unflattering blanket coat. I'm totally in love with it.
The pattern is thanks to the amazing VeraVenus. She puts up some amazing free vintage patterns. Great source if you haven't visited her blog already.
I fell in love with the fabric when I saw it in the store and I bought everything they had. Which was 2 one yard segments. Blast. I knew exactly what kind of thing I wanted to make out of it and just prayed I had enough fabric for it. I found the free pattern on Sew Vera Venus when I was searching pinterest for jacket ideas. What luck!
This sweater jacket is basically the most comfortable thing I own. I don't even know how fabric can be this soft. But it is. And it is so warm and cozy and oversized and super fast to make. I serged all the edges (this fabric unraveled so bad!) and didn't hem or turn under anything except the pockets. Like I said, super fast. Totally works! If I need something to do while I'm snowed in, I might embroider a decorative blanket stitch around the edges. Might look cool! I used strips of faux leather to pipe the pockets.
My incarnation is also slightly shorter due to yardage restrictions. So glad I eeked it out though!
Hope everyone is surviving these never ending snow storms! I bought tickets to visit my sister in Texas at the end of the month. Just had too much of it!
And I want to semi-apologise for my total rant last post. Some things just infuriate me. Dodgy copied pattern still up for grabs if anyone wants it!
