Really, one of the best things about Christmas are all the festive outfits! After that it is just boring old winter clothes. It's been unseasonably cold this year, so I haven't gotten to wear all the outfits I planned, but whatever. I managed to make two Christmas dresses this year and I wore both of them once! More than I do most years. The gloriousness of fleece lined stockings! They are as warm as most of the trousers I own and make wearing dresses doable in this weather.
The first is a silly thing. I would say incredibly niche and therefore mostly unwearable, but as Star Wars movies come out basically every Christmas season, it isn't any less wearable than any other Christmas dress. I just couldn't leave the store without this fabric once I saw it. I made this pattern for two reasons: Most importantly, I wanted porg collar pins, second was I wanted it sleeveless for ease of wearing a sweater over it because it is Christmas and cold out. Peter Pan collars aren't generally my thing, but I kind of like it! Porgs photoshopped to be Christmassy by me and printed on shrink plastic. Fun times :) I'm enjoying playing with shrinky dinks!
Simplicity 1419 (OOP)
Super super simple pattern. Since it was a one time use dress, I wasn't really willing to spend a lot of time on it, but it fit almost perfectly out of the envelope. No adjustments needed, size 12 on top grading out to 14 towards the waist. I changed the zipper because back zippers are the WORST. I've never had one not look horrible and wavy, and they never work with my weirdly shaped back (sewing has given me issues, lol). Plus, I didn't want to break up the pattern. Moved the zipper to the side seam, the button at the top of the neck slit makes the neck plenty big to go over your head. That was pretty much the only change I made.
Here are the graphics for the porg pins if you want to make some yourself for next year ;) Colour toned down because it gets darker when you shrink the plastic. Printed about 2 inches big. I made bigger ones as pins for my sister and bil
PORGS! Am I right??
Sorry for the cell phone pictures. Just took a few while I was heading out to see the movie. As it was just a one time wearable dress, I didn't bother taking better ones. My next dress might be a bit better though!
